Title: Silver Tongue
Pairing/Characters: Draco/Harry
Summary: In which Harry is as good as a lawyer, and saves Narcissa from the Wizengamot. EWE, established relationship. PG, 500 words

"The defense would like to call on Harry Potter to give a statement concerning Mrs. Malfoy's conduct."

For the defense? The trial had been simple up to then; it seemed clear that Mrs. Malfoy was the worst sort of liar and Dark consort, but now the defense was calling on Harry Potter to speak in her favor?

A muttering passed through the crowd as Harry Potter stood and took his place on the witness stand before the Wizengamot. He moved with confidence, his black and gold robes swirling about him, every inch the hero.

In his heart though, he was seventeen, sweaty, covered in grime, and lying face-down on a rotting carpet of leaves. Only one other person in the room knew this, and he was counting on it to get his mother out of a conviction.

Harry had no papers with him, but he spoke with practiced ease and passion, almost better than the expensive solicitor who headed the defense. With his voice he constructed a night of horror and blood, and introduced a loving mother, terrified for the safety of her son. He recounted his peril and his salvation, a whispered question and an answer, given in hope and received in kind.

"She saved my life that night," he said, letting the truth ring through his words. "If it weren't for her, I would not be here -- in fact it is likely that none of us would. Mrs. Malfoy's actions during the War saved all our lives; will you condemn her for it?"

After Harry Potter spoke, the trial was all but decided. The assembly went through the necessary motions, and the Wizengamot voted in her favor.

Harry tumbled out of the Floo and onto the massive hearth. He rolled easily to his feet, though his formal robes were rather stiff and heavy for that sort of thing, and he heard an amused voice drawl,

"I shouldn't think you have to show off, Harry Potter. You've already got the world at your feet."

Harry turned and smiled broadly. "Do I hear a 'thank you'?" he asked.

Draco laughed. "Yes, alright. Thank you." He paused. "For doing as I asked, and for not losing your temper and shouting at the Wizengamot. And for sticking to the speech we practiced. You played the judges and the audience very well."

Stepping forward to give Draco a victory hug, Harry asked softly, in his lover's ear. "As good as a Slytherin, hmm?"

Thinking of Harry standing confidently before the doubting masses and the glaring judges, Draco's lips curved against his neck, and he offered a rare gift of truth when he replied. "Better."
